On Ringo Lake Part 5 Link up (and part 4)

Hello Mystery travelers,
I missed the last link up mainly due to work and shopping and getting ready for Christmas. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas no matter how you spent it.  I agree with Bonnie, this time of year is hard for many people.  My Christmas was very low key and very different from when my mother was alive.  She loved all holidays but especially Christmas.  She was like a kid, excited about it all. I have tried to fill her shoes, getting family together, having fun and enjoying each other but each year it gets harder.  This year we had a gathering for a Soup Buffet on Christmas Eve.  It was wonderful.  But that left DH and me alone on Christmas Day. We went to the new Star Wars movie then tried to find a place to eat.  Living in Carson City, the casinos are always open but the wait was over thirty minutes at the two we tried.  Then I remembered I saw a Chinese restaurant open. So, like A Christmas Story, we had Chinese food for Christmas dinner.  Gave us a good laugh and we enjoyed the quiet if different Christmas Day!

Now on to Ringo Lake....... That's it, that's all I have.  :-}

I did these for part 4 two weeks ago.  Really that's it, two, count 'em two.  But I really love the aqua and browns.  These may feature in another quilt this year, when I finish this one.

Part 5 is a mere thought waiting to happen.  I am going to try several different ways to do flying geese.  This is a perfect step to figure out which way gives me the best results.  I received my folded corners ruler and will be trying it on the steps I need to finish.

I am hoping part 5 is not the last and that maybe there will be a couple more.  I always like the reveal but it always comes to quickly.  In the meantime, Happy New Year to all! and click here to get back to the link up.
Joyfully piecing again!

On Ringo Lake 2017 Part 3 Link Up

Another clue, another week closer to Christmas and time for "me" sewing is very limited. But I did squeeze in a little bit here and there.  Cut a few, sewed a few, size looks right, press, trim and repeat.

Here they are laid out ready to sew, making sure they are going in the correct direction and don't go awry.
Then I began chain piecing them two at a time. I sewed one corner on two, cut the first one off, spun it around and sewed the other corner.  From there I kept alternating so I could sew both ends on without losing my place.

They all came out great, of course I've only done a few but so far so good. Two are flipped over (bottom left) just to compare to Bonnie's and verify they are pressed correctly. And the bonus triangles did not get sewn.  They went in the bag for dog beds for the Humane Society.  I love small but these are just too small.

A little side note here. I love my wonder clips.  Recently I purchased the mini clips.  Here they are side by side. These little ones work great for clipping the stacks of components together.  I like clipping better than pinning.  And if you have long hair, or you're in between haircuts, the little ones work great as hair clips.  Twist and clip several times and you have a faux french braid. Always like to multi-purpose my tools.
And finally, a great way to store wonder clips is an empty gum container.  This one was Dentyne.  I fill it with the lid fully open then use the small opening to get them out or put them away one at a time. Keeps them corralled and if I knock it over they don't fly everywhere.

That's it for this link up.  Thanks for visiting.  See you next week.
Joyfully making progress,
Terry

On Ringo Lake 2017 Part 2 Link Up

Well, fellow adventurers, the link up was Sunday but here it is Tuesday. I have made some progress  My geese and wings are cut.  These are the geese on top of piles of wings.  I love these colors, even put in some yellow and orange.  Thinking sunrise and sunset.

I used Bonnie's new Essential Triangle Tool.  After cutting a few and testing sewing they are making the grade.  I am sliver trimming but I like that better than geese being too small and it gets rid of the dog ears.  Here are my 3 test subjects and my first complete set of chain pieced geese, ironed and ready to trim.

And these just need another wing.  There are a lot more to do but the cutting is done so this will go faster now.

Hope everyone is having as much fun as I am.  Click here to get back to the Part 2 link up. Thanks for visiting.

Joyfully piecing a flock of geese,
Terry

On Ringo Lake 2017 Mystery - Monday Link Up Part 1

Hello fellow mystery adventurers.  I have not posted for awhile and decided the Quiltville Mystery 2017 would be a good time to start again.  This will be short and sweet but wanted to participate in the link-up.

I just have to say that I love the colors going into this mystery.  I often change the colors but these are so pleasing together that I am going with them.  When Bonnie first released the colors I went to stash and pulled all fat quarters that worked.  Here they are and I think the are yummy!

And here are my first 9-patch blocks.  Ironically I did not use any of the fabric I pulled.  I am sure I will as the mystery progresses but I am a scrap user addict (read more about the scrap user system here Scrap User's System).  I pulled my pre-cut scrap bin, found the colors I needed and started cutting.  Because most were not long strips I cut everything into squares trying to limit the number of each fabric to 8 or 9 squares keeping each block uniquely scrappy.  I had fun with the brown making each one a different fabric. See the puppy in the upper left.

Here is my start on the remaining blocks I need to finish Part 1 (click to find part 1 at Quiltville).  I hope to have them done before the next clue is released.

Thanks for visiting today.

Joyfully piecing On Ringo Lake,
Terry

****UPDATE 11-28 all Part 1 blocks done, bring on Part 2.****

P.S. My friend Nancy is also playing along.
